Seven months, 29 weeks, 207 days, five countries, six college students and one awesome and powerful God! Six friends from Lubbock, TX (in the picture from L to R: Josh Pruitt, Justin Hanes, Tiffany Hanes, Erika Nimry, Justin Gibson, and Chad Wheeler) embark on a mission to learn from and share the Lord with the people of East Africa.
The guys depart from Lubbock International Airport on May 17th heading to Entebbe, Uganda where we will then travel to Mbale, Uganda. There we will stay for about a week and a half; our time will be spent visiting friends and teaching two Bible courses on the Letter of James at MTI (Messiah Theological Institute). http://www.mbalemissionteam.org/
In early June we will cross the border into Kenya and head down to Kisumu where we will work with the Ringroad Orphanage. Tiffany Hanes will meet us here. While in Kisumu we will spend time with the children; teaching, working and playing (but not neccisarily in that order!) We will also lead a 2 day Bible Seminar for 50 of the local church leaders; we will probably adapt our James course for this seminar – it should be exciting! I am very interested to see how an orphanage works in Africa – this ministry is needed greatly in Africa and anything we can learn about taking care of orphans is so valuable to missions in the future!
Next we head down to Nairobi, the capitol city of Kenya, where we will work with a ministry called “Made in the Streets”; a ministry to homeless children. They are an amazing group that works hard to bring hope to the massive population of street kids (estimated over 100,000 street children in Nairobi alone!) Pray for them and visit the website: www.made-in-the-streets.org
At the end of our time in Nairobi Erika Nimry will join us and we will head to the coast to spend a few days at the AAMC (All African Missionary Confrence) where we will relax with some friends and meet missionaries from all over Africa).
After the Confrence we will head north up the coast to Malindi where we will work with the Giryama tribe helping construct dormitories for orphans to help with their new minsitry to the orphans (I’m sure you’ll hear more about this later!) We will also be helping them make a video to bring back to the states to help gain interest and support in the work there.
In early August we will head south into Tanzania; stopping in Tanga for a few days to visit Tim and Becky Talley, and then down to Dar es Salaam to visit Fielden and Janet Allison. Justin and Tiffany Hanes, Justin Gibson and Erika Nimry will fly back home on August 8th.
And Josh and I will begin our journey north… hopefully to Sudan! But more on this later. (please pray God would lead us this fall, that doors would be open, eyes open to see them, and feet made ready to walk through them!)

You are planning to do amazing things in East Africa. Our amazing and awesome Lord will work it out with you.
Come! come! come!
Chad,
I was so pleased and excited to finally hear from you. I will get your website address posted on the missions bulletin board and make a quick announcement this evening. Pine Tree is very mission minded and your website will offer a great way for our members to connect with your work. Your latest posting really struck a chord with me Chad. I wouldn’t have considered that angle you had about the personal space. You know me, mister emotional, well you had me. You and your crew are in our prayers. Learn all that you can Chad. It has been a pleasure watching you mature from the first trip to El Salvador through all your adventures and now look at you, engaged and all. Keep God first and hold as many hands as you can.
In Him,
Craig Rapp
Hi Chad,
My name is Brooke Goldfinch and I’m in the graduate film program at New York University. I am making a short film and I need a picture to represent poverty in Africa. I stumbled across your blog and read it with great interest. It sounds like your stay there was very eventful. I was wondering if you would permit me to use one of the images that you took during your visit. Unfotunately I can’t afford to pay you but I’m a regular contributer to World Vision so I will give a little extra this month.
Kind regards,
Brooke Goldfinch
